There are many ways to become powerful in the land of Alberon, none without risk.  Beware of exotic magical items that come in on the trade routes, such as the Oil Lamp of the powerful and malevolent Genie.  This dangerous spirit offers to grant your every desire if only you will free it and undertake the modest task of becoming his lamp bearer.  Surely not too much to ask for fame and riches? But the role soon loses its lustre as bearing the lamp takes a terrible toll, feeding off their life essence, leaving them prematurely aged and lacking in free will.
